Benefits Calculator

The online Benefit Calculator can be used as a guide to your potential Housing Benefit / Local Council Tax Reduction entitlement. Start the Benefit Calculator|, should you want to claim after using the calculator there is an option to transfer the details you have already enter directly into a new online application process.

You may qualify if any of the following apply to you:

  • You're on a low income (employed or looking for work)
  • You have dependent children
  • You're ill or disabled
  • You're caring for someone
  • You're aged 60 or over
  • You have been bereaved
  • You're pregnant or have recently had a baby
  • If you have less than £16,000 (if your savings are over £16,000, you will not be eligible to claim Housing Benefit or Local Council Tax Reduction, unless this money was from a compensation payment or a Prisoner of War payment).

What information would it help to have to complete the calculation?

Please note that for a Local Council Tax Reduction calculation it would help to have details of your council tax liability, for your address, to hand. It is best to use your council tax account or you may wish to check your council tax gross amount| by searching using your postcode.

The gross amount will not have considered any discounts|, exemptions| or reductions for people with disabilities| which is why it is better to use any liability from your council tax bill.

For housing benefit calculations you should have the maximum eligible rent which is either your net rent after support costs and ineligible services if you are a housing association tenant, or your local housing allowance| rate applicable to your circumstances and your address.

In all circumstances it would help if you had your last two monthly pay slips (or five weekly pay slips), any pension details, and details of any other pension or income available.

Will the amount calculated be the amount that I receive?

You should always assume that the calculated amount is an estimate, and no decisions should be made on the amounts estimated without consulting the Housing Benefit & Local Council Tax Reduction office for confirmation. For example the calculator will calculate a new tax credits amount which may be different to the actual amount that you receive, and consequently affect your entitlement to either Housing Benefit and/or Local Council Tax Reduction.

Other Benefit Calculator

You can check whether you may qualify for additonal financial support by using the gov.uk benefit adviser|*. The Calculator will checks a number of benefits and tax credits you may be eligible to receive.

*Please note that the Gov.uk website is not part of Bournemouth Borough Council’s website and Bournemouth Borough Council can accept no responsibility for information supplied on the Gov.uk website. The calculator is meant as a guideline to possible entitlement.
