The government has made many changes to benefits recently and this may mean you face financial difficulty. Because of this Bournemouth Borough Council has set up the Local Welfare Assistance Fund to help residents who may be experiencing financial difficulty.

The main thing to remember is to ACT EARLY and ACT QUICKLY. If you can give us as much accurate information as you can we’ll have more chance of helping you. Please contact the Housing Options Team as a priority. The team will support you and, if you’re eligible, you could receive financial help towards a deposit for your rent.
You may be eligible through the Local Welfare Assistance Fund for help. The quickest (and easiest) way to apply is to do it online. In addition to providing financial help we can offer you advice and information about other forms of support, such as money management advice and budgeting information.
Apply as soon as possible and the fund may be able to arrange for household items or services to be provided or you’ll receive a pre-paid card or voucher to use. We can put you in touch with local organisations we work with and who can provide direct advice to you. The advice these organisations can offer includes money management and debt advice and is FREE, impartial and confidential. We may also be able to help you access financial support from the Local Welfare Assistance Fund if your crisis meets Bournemouth Borough Council criteria for financial help.

If you are homeless or at risk of being homeless you may be able to get help from the Housing Team| or by telephoning 01202 451467.
You may be eligible for financial help from the Local Welfare Assistance Fund if you have a local connection with Bournemouth (i.e. you live in Bournemouth permanently or have a close family member that lives in Bournemouth), you’re aged 16 or over, you’re on a low income, you don’t have savings of more than £500 or you don’t have access to any other forms of assistance. In order for you to complete an application we will need the full names, dates of birth and National Insurance Numbers of every adult on the application. Please ensure you have these prior to applying.
We will also need the full name and contact details of your landlord or letting agents if applicable.
Any applications made from 16th June 2014 for fresh items of food will be processed in a new way. Any successful applicants will receive fresh items of food via a delivery. This means that the fund will no longer be supplying cash awards for either energy or fresh food.
