Pay - Housing Benefit Overpayments


You can pay with a debit card via Santander BillPay|.


You will need to:

  • Select 'Bournemouth B.C.' from the drop down menu
  • Select 'Bournemouth B.C. (Benefit Overpayments)' from the second drop down
  • Have your reference ready

Via Our 24 Hour Payment Line

You can make a payment using a debit or credit card (a £2:50 admin charge will be applied to credit card payments).


To make a payment call (01202) 454748, select option 6 and have your Housing Benefit Overpayments Invoice number ready.


Via Telephone/Internet Banking

Your bank will require the following to transfer funds:

  • Our sort code 40 13 07
  • Our account number 21006622
  • Your reference number

Payments made via Telephone/Internet banking may take up to 5 working days to reach us.

By Standing Order

Contact the Benefits Overpayment team on (01202) 451594 to discuss and agree on a repayment plan.


Once the repayment plan has been agreed download the Standing Order Form|. Complete and sign the form, and send it to your bank.



At Your Local Bank

You will require the following:

  • The bank giro, which is included with your bill.

Your chosen bank may charge a fee, except local branches of HSBC and payment may take up to 5 working days to reach us.



At Your Local Post Office®

You will need:

  • A Post Office® transfer form (TRANSCASH)
  • Our account number 2178117
  • Your Council Tax reference number

A fee is chargeable and payments may take up to 5 working days to reach us.

By Post or Visit Us

You will need:

  • The payment slip, which is included with your bill
  • cheque made payable to Bournemouth Borough Council, with your Housing Benefits Overpayment reference written on the back

Post or bring your payment to:

If you require a payment receipt, please advise us and include your whole bill with the payment.


Payments may take up to 5 working days to process, from the date of receipt.
