Green Goals - The Results

Green Goals is now entering its fifth football season

The results so far include many environmental and community benefits for Bournemouth. Green Goals has helped with:

  • Regular litter picks and clean-up events with local schools and guest appearances from AFC Bournemouth players and Cherry Bear
  • Green Goals roadshows at family festivals, school conferences and the Bournemouth Air Festival including keepie-uppie competitions and recycling quizzes to win match day tickets, football merchandise and mascot opportunities
  • The Rags to Riches Textile Recycling Competition with Bournemouth schools
  • Introducing an AFC Bournemouth player each year as the Green Goals Ambassador to champion environmental issues
  • Supporting 82 local community projects in the first 5 years to deliver healthy living benefits, with over £68k of funding
  • Regular Green Goals updates at AFC Bournemouth games and in matchday programmes
  • Education initiatives used by The Cherries Learning Centre focusing on environmental issues and raising standards in literacy, numeracy and ICT

Pergola and Sensory Planting

Accessible area for pupils with physical and sensory impairments including an increasing number of children with autism and challenging behaviours. The Gardening Club and parent volunteers will build and plant during February half term. (contribution towards £3,950)

Themed tree seat for Wildlife Garden

Part of the new visitor centre providing a gateway to the Stour Valley. The wildlife garden will provide a relaxing space where wildlife can be observed.

Raised vegetable beds for school garden

Provision of raised beds around the school to enable more children to join Gardening Club (currently 60 on waiting list). Would also be used during lessons and for parents Saturday gardening days.

Birch Drive Project – Development.

Expansion and development of gardening work carried out in and around Birch Drive. This will further develop, maintain and refurbish areas created by recent volunteering work.

To maintain and develop Pokesdown Green and ‘Billboard’ green (Rosebery Road). Replanting, refencing, and creating wildlife habitats. Installing self watering system / water butts.

Boscombe Regeneration Mural

5 A Level Art students will train with MBN Arts and create a mural in the Sovereign Centre car park, The theme is regeneration and the protection of our natural areas in the town and based on the Earth Charter principles.

Count on Me

Equipment (+ fees to attend Winton Carnival) to be used at events to promote and encourage sustainable behaviour. The value of pledges to choose a green activity will be added to a live counter, carbon savings, that will be displayed on the day and social media.

Large carved structure depicting how the local wildlife utilises the underground environment in an interesting and educational format. Situated near the visitor centre, which will offer tea and coffee, and a seating area.
