Waste Prevention

Help cut waste by not creating rubbish in the first place

The best ways to cut down the rubbish we make and throw away are to: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

Reduce – The most important step is to try to reduce the amount of rubbish we make.

Reuse – The second most important step is to reuse items so they don’t become rubbish.

Recycle – The third most important step is to recycle or compost. That turns our rubbish into something new and useful.

How good are we at recycling in Bournemouth?

In Bournemouth, we are exceeding  EU targets set for national recycling rates. But we are still generating a lot of rubbish.

The recycling team run a number of waste prevention campaigns to help the community reduce the amount of waste we produce and to reuse more of our stuff.
