The Licensing Team is responsible for providing an efficient and cost effective service for the Authority and for its clients. In doing so, the objective is to maintain and improve the standards of public safety in aspects of licensed premises, persons and vehicles. This is achieved by the balanced use of enforcement and education in relation to the appropriate legislation.


Enforcement staff work regularly in the evenings and at weekends. Such in-performance visits are carried out without prior notification. Day time visits are also without prior notification, but pre-arranged visits can be organised where a licensee requires assistance and/or help and advice.


The section has a close working relationship with all of the responsible authorities. Joint inspections help ensure that public safety is maintained.  Liaison with the licensed trade is essential and encouraged.
