The Cabinet
New Cabinet agreed on 11 May 2007

The Cabinet (also referred to as the “Executive”) is the part of the authority responsible for making decisions within the overall policy framework set by the Council. The Cabinet is made up of the Leader of the Council, who is chosen by the full Council, and nine other Councillors including the Deputy Leader.  The Leader is Chair of the Cabinet and the Deputy Leader is Vice-Chair. When major decisions (“key decisions”) are to be discussed or made, these are published in the Cabinet Forward Plan. When these key decisions are to be discussed at a meeting of the Cabinet, this will be open for the public to attend except where personal or confidential matters are being discussed.   The Cabinet has to make decisions that are in line with the Council’s overall policies and budget.
