Kidzone works by colour coding the beach into zones. Colour matching wristbands are issued free help to identify children with a particular 200m stretch of beach. Children lost or found wandering outside of their zone can be quickly spotted and swiftly re-united with their party.
The innovative Kidzone scheme was introduced onto beaches in Bournemouth for the summer of 1997. Now in its sixth year the Kidzone scheme has proved its worth by reducing the numbers of children lost by more than 50 per cent (602 lost children in 1996 before the scheme, reduced to 202 in 2000).
