Promote the entitlement of every child and young person in Bournemouth to a fully rounded cultural and creative education
Children and young people are Bournemouth’s future and much of their learning takes place out of school. Cultural facilities, clubs and organisations provide an essential resource to ensure that physical activity; creativity and constructive use of leisure time become life-long pursuits.
A multitude of organised play, sports and arts activities is provided by Council and other private public and voluntary providers. It is anticipated that the demand for these activities will expand with changing social and work demands. This requires a structured approach to organised activities for children, to both build capacity and to offer a wide variety of quality, exciting and stimulating activities within a safe environment.
It is fundamental to our Cultural Strategy that links between schools and cultural activities are strengthened and there is now growing commitment by Government to do this, demonstrated by the Government Plan for Sport. Cultural activities are able to both improve the general health of children and raise their self esteem which is so important in both helping them achieve in school and in life.
Every child should have the opportunity to excel in some cultural, sport or arts activity and to follow this through from school into adult life. Part of this means letting young people realise their own ideas by involving them in what activities and pastimes are offered and giving feed back on the quality of any cultural experience.
