Objectives • Develop sustainable and distinctive arts, entertainments and cultural industries. • Promote a cultural and economic “climate” which will enable the retention of creative talent in Bournemouth. • Ensure all cultural services seek continuous improvement and provide models of Best Practice. • Develop receptive audiences for a wide range of cultural events.
Targets • Form one or more cultural industries ‘networks’ by 2002 to cross-fertilise innovation and help plan growth of the sector. • Increase in levels of employment skills in cultural industries. • “Map” the area’s cultural industries by 2003, working with the South West Regional Cultural Consortium. • Identify more detailed targets in consultation with the cultural industries to measure the above actions by 2003.
Action Plan • Promote the financial stability and success of the funded sectors including the Bournemouth Orchestra. • Seek to maximise partnership funding and business sponsorship. • Support and develop the partnership between the University, Arts Institute and language schools to attract overseas’ students. • Ensure the availability of suitable infrastructure to support growth of cultural industries, including working spaces and communication links. • Ensure the Learning and Skills Council and the small business service, prioritise the exceptional opportunities of the cultural sector in Bournemouth. • Ensure the Bournemouth workforce offers exceptionally high levels of skills for cultural and tourism industries. • Work with the Dorset/New Forest sub region to identify priority sub sectors. • Work with the University, College and Arts Institute to encourage students to use skills locally, develop structured work placements/residencies. • Develop cultural industry ‘networks’ to support creativity and innovation and help plan growth. • Manage cultural venues in a way which is accessible to and encourages local talent.
