Neil Smurthwaite is the Head of Community Care Services.
The Community Care business unit aims to help vulnerable adults to live safely and independently at home for as long as they are able. We also help people who can no longer live at home, even with support, as they consider a move into a residential care or nursing home.
We provide social care information, support and services for:
- Older people
- Disabled people
And people who have
- Learning disabilities
- Serious sight or hearing difficulties
- Mental health difficulties
- Substance misuse problems
- A long term illness.
We also support carers who provide regular, substantial support and care to a relative or friend who cannot manage at home without help.
We work closely with health, housing, voluntary and private organisations to arrange services including:
- Advice, information and support to help with day to day living
- Help with essential personal and practical tasks at home
- Advice on equipment and home adaptations to help with everyday living
- Ongoing care for people leaving hospital
- Leisure and social activities at day centres
- Help and advice to claim benefits
- Carers support groups and breaks from caring.
