Communications and Consultation

The Public Relations and Communications team are responsible for the following:

Communications and Consultation Strategy
Manage a comprehensive communications and consultation strategy and assigned work programme, that places the Council well for dealing with the Communications, public relations and consultation requirements of cabinet-style working and best value.

Best Value Communications
Employ effective communications and consultation methods, meeting statutory best value publication requirements, to inform Bournemouth residents and other stakeholders about the best value process and its positive implications for improved service delivery, as well as to enable effective consultation for best value reviews.

Consultation Planning
Advise the Chief Executive, the Director's Management Team, Senior Members and Partners (as appropriate) on general policy options and corporate development proposals that enable the Council to meet its statutory requirement to co-ordinate corporate and service consultation arrangements.

Citizens Panel Consultation Programme
Deliver a rolling programme of customer research via the Bournemouth Citizens Panel and other appropriate means.

Council Publications
Produce a library of essential corporate literatue to provide local people with clear, up-to-date information about the Council, its policies and services and how to 'get in touch'.

Council Newspaper
Produce a free newspaper, the Bournemouth Journal, for all local residents which gives comprehensive, accurate, up-to-date information about the Council and the Bournemouth Partnership, its policies and its activities and encourages feedback.

Media Relations Activity
Operate a media relations policy which acknowledges the media as a significant means of disseminating information about the Council to its customers, workforce, partners, and colleagues in the public and community sector.

Council Web Site (www.bournemouth.gov.uk)
Work with IT Services to manage the visual style, structure and editorial content of the Council's website.  Use electronic technology to present clear, timely and consistent messages to our customers, to extend our communications 'reach' and to work towards Government targets for e-business.

Council Intranet Site (BORIS)
Manage the visual style, development (in liaison with IT Services) and content of the Council's intranet site, BORIS, to help enable the Council to present clear and consistent messages and information to its staff and Elected Members, and to facilitate greater efficiency through internal electronic communication systems.

Special Projects to Market the Council & Its Services, and the Bournemouth Partnership
Manage specific high profile projects and campaigns as agreed appropriate by the Council, with a view to promoting  and protecting the image of the Authority as a whole, and raising the profile of specific core areas of Council business.

Corporate Identity
Working with internal print and design colleagues, further develop the Council's corporate visual identity to bring closer together the positive aspects of the coat of arms with the Bournemouth Partnership / tourism colour scheme, to present a clear and consistent visual image of the Council.
