Strategic Development

The Strategic Development team is responsible for the following areas of work:

New National Issues
Advises the Chief Executive, the Director's Management Team and Senior Members on general policy options and proposals for the Council's initial response to new statutory requirements and national issues of strategic significance.

Regional Planning
Advises the Chief Executive, the Director's Management Team and Senior Members on general policy options and corporate development proposals linked to Council membership of the Local Government Regional Association, the Regional Chamber, other Regional and Sub-Regional bodies.

Community Planning
Advises the Chief Executive, the Director's Management Team and Senior Members on general policy options and corporate development proposals that enable the Council to meet its statutory requirements in relation to producing a Community Strategy.

Corporate Change
Supports the Chief Executive, the Director's Management Team and Senior Members in the statutory modernisation of the Council by co-ordinating an overall programme of change that links the new political structure with Community Planning and Best Value requirements.

Corporate Priorities
Advises the Chief Executive, the Director's Management Team and Senior Members on general policy options and corporate development proposals that enable the Council to review, resource, communicate and achieve community-focused corporate priorities through service planning arrangements and Best Value statutory requirements.

Consultation Planning
Advises the Chief Executive, the Director's Management Team and Senior Members on general policy options and corporate development proposals that enable the Council to meet its statutory requirement to co-ordinate corporate and service consultation arrangements. 

Emergency Planning
Ensures that the Council meets its statutory obligations as an Emergency Planning Authority in the corporate planning and responds to requests for assistance in the event of a major local civil emergency.

Local Government Ombudsman
Enables the Council to meet its statutory requirements in relation to Local Government Ombudsman investigations by ensuring the operation of an effective and complimentary corporate complaints procedure.
