How do I Register to Vote?

We are in the process of sending out Register of Electors Forms to every property in Bournemouth

IF THERE ARE NO CHANGES TO YOUR FORM

If there will be no changes to the information printed on your form by the qualifying date of 15 October 2008, you now have three easy ways to re-register, which will save your council money. You will need your form to hand. If you have not received a form please contact the Electoral Services Office on 01202 451123 or via email.

1. By telephone:

You can confirm the details are correct by telephoning our automated FREEPHONE number 0800 025 0911 - using a touchtone phone with the ¬ symbol, or;

2. On the Internet:

Visit our Internet site which is at

www.elecreg.co.uk/bournemouth or;

3. By Text Message:

To register, text the security code part one, a space, security code part two to

IF YOU NEED TO MAKE CHANGES TO YOUR FORM

If you need to make changes to the information printed on your form then you will need to make the amendments to the form by using a BLUE or BLACK ink pen, sign it and return the form in the envelope provided.

REGISTER OF ELECTORS

The Register of Electors is a list of all those residents in the Borough who are eligible to vote in various elections. It also contains a list of overseas voters whose last registration to vote was at an address within Bournemouth, Service personnel who have registered under a service declaration and can include the names of homeless persons if they can claim some local connection. If you are not on the Register of Electors, you cannot vote.

There are two versions of the Register of Electors produced, a full version and an edited version.
The full version of the Register contains the names of all eligible electors within the Borough of Bournemouth. Only certain persons and organisations are allowed to have copies of this version of the Register of Electors. They are only permitted by law to use it for specified purposes, including electoral purposes, the prevention and the detection of crime and checking your identity when you have applied for credit. It is a criminal offence for them to pass information from the Register of Electors on to an unauthorised party or to use it for any other purpose.

The edited version of the Register of Electors leaves out the names and addresses of electors who have asked for them to be excluded from this version of the Register, and it may be purchased by anyone for any purpose, including direct marketing.

The Register of Electors is revised during the autumn and is published each year on the 1 December after we have completed our annual canvass of all households within the Borough of Bournemouth. It is also updated once a month, on the first working day of each month, under a Rolling Registration scheme.

Check that you are registered to vote.
To check whether your name is included on the Register of Electors you can inspect the Register at the Town Hall, some Town Libraries or, alternatively, contact Electoral Services. The right of everyone who is eligible to vote is a fundamental democratic right.
