Mayor of Bournemouth - COUNCILLOR BARRY GOLDBART
Mayoral Year: Friday, 28 May 2010 to Friday, 27 May 2011

Mayor's Biography

Councillor Barry Goldbart was born in Leicester in 1942 and was educated at Northampton Technical College. Barry always had a leaning towards engineering and technology and was trained as a Scientific Instrument Maker.  His love of Electro-Mechanical engineering led him to work on many innovative projects and he became a Member of the Institute of Patentees and Inventors.

Barry met Vivienne in London where they married and set up home.  Their late daughter and only child Jane, who sadly and unexpectedly passed away in 2006, brought great joy to them both.

Councillor Goldbart’s interest in Politics started when the newly married couple moved to the London Borough of Brent.  Barry was elected in 1974 to Brent Council where he served on the Education and Amenities & Works Committees.  Moving his family to Bournemouth permanently in 1985, his love of this beautiful town eventually led him back into political life and he was elected to Bournemouth Council in 2003. In 2007 he became Cabinet Member for Adult Services, a role that he found very challenging but highly rewarding.  He is currently Chairman of the Joint Archives Board, a Member of the Dorset Fire Authority and a proud Governor of Bournemouth School for Girls and Oakmead College of Technology.

Barry’s interests include any form of live entertainment and most major sporting events, particularly Motor Racing.Mayor's e-mail address:  mayor@bournemouth.gov.uk
