(Charity No 1006725)
The Bournemouth Heart Club was established in 1991 is to achieve the long-term rehabilitation of patients who have had heart attacks, coronary angioplasty or heart surgery, through lifestyle change and supervised regular exercise.
The building which is now home to the Bournemouth Heart Club was built on the Royal Bournemouth Hospital site. The charity raised £750,000 to build the Club, while the Hospital Trust granted a lease and contributes towards the running costs of the building. The Centre has two well-equipped gymnasiums, two rest areas, administrative offices and a kitchen.
The Club is managed by an Executive Committee made up of selected members and employs a manager, clerical staff and exercise instructors. Volunteers also play a major part in running the office and fundraising.
The service is funded from Patient subscription and attendance fees as well as fundraising. Understandably, fundraising is an essential element of the Heart Club's activities - as it is with any charity - and donations are always most welcome.
