Councillor Anne Filer
Deputy Mayoral Year: Friday, 30 May 2008 to Friday, 29 May 2009
The Deputy Mayor was Mayor of Bournemouth last year, and her new role is that of supporter to the new Mayor - Councillor Stephen Chappell.
Her duties involve hosting Civic events on behalf of the Mayor at times when he has prior Mayoral Engagements, and to attend functions on his behalf when he is unable to do so because of prior commitments.
Biography
Councillor Anne Filer was born and went to school in Boscombe, Bournemouth and still lives in the house that her grandparents built in 1930. She is an Associate Member of the Institute of Linguists and is a qualified Counsellor/Therapist.
Anne served as Mayoress to her husband, Michael, when he was Mayor of Bournemouth in 1984 and this year they have made history by being the first couple in Bournemouth to have each served as Mayor.
A mother of four children and grandmother to three, Anne has always been very active and has served on a variety of communal Associations and Charity Committees. She is currently a member of the Executive Committee of Bournemouth’s Twinning Association, organizing official visits to Bournemouth’s Twin Town of Netanya in Israel.
In 1999, anxious to play a part in shaping the future development of her home town, Anne was elected as a Councillor for the East Cliff & Springbourne Ward and enjoys serving the people she represents.
Anne plays tennis, is addicted to Sudoko and Crosswords, and is a keen gardener, winning an Award in the Bournemouth in Bloom Competition. She and Michael are both serious and competitive Bridge players and have twice represented the island of Antigua in international tournaments held in Cuba and St Kitts.

Can’t Walk Away Project of the Comrades of Children Overseas (Charity No SCO30428) - supporting children in Targu Mures, Romania
