Overview & Scrutiny in Bournemouth

In Bournemouth there are six Overview and Scrutiny Panels| with a co-ordinating Management Panel.

The panels recieve support from all areas of the Council, depending on what topics they are working on. Panels undertake project work, called Task and Finish| with the overall aim of developing and improving the Council.  Overview & Scrutiny has a dedicated management and support for project management and research. The panels principal roles are best described by the following four principles.

• Provides a ‘critical friend’ to the decision-makers
• Enables the voice and concerns of the public
• Is carried out by ‘independent-minded councillors’ who lead and own the scrutiny process;
• Drives improvement in public services.
• Of all these principles, the fourth is arguably most important. The best quality overview and scrutiny adds real value to what Councils and their partners do.

Community Representatives

As a community representative you can play an important role in the investigations and reviews carried out by Overview and Scrutiny. Community Representatives will have the opportunity to work with Councillors to contribute to the Scrutiny process.
