Neil Goddard is the Service Director for Childrens Strategic Services.
The Children's Strategic Services has two main roles. The first is to provide support to the two other business units in the cluster - Inclusion & Achievement and Children's Services - as well as schools and other partners. The business unit will therefore provide support in areas such as business planning, financial planning, human resources, risk management and information management.
As far as schools are concerned, the business unit is responsible for ensuring that there are sufficient school places for the 21,000 children in the Borough and that the places are in the right locations. Major building work is also organised on behalf of schools and other establishments such as Children's Centres. Support and training is delivered to school governors, and the business unit also operates the Bournemouth Education Development Centre at Slades Farm, which offers a training and professional development centre for teachers and others.
The second key role is those areas that provide a service to the public. The One Stop Information Services, for example, provides information and advice to the public, in particular parents who want to find out more about child care and schooling within the Borough. The School Admissions Team helps parents find a school place for their child and now coordinates admissions for all maintained schools across the Borough.
Finally, the Student Support Team administers awards for those wishing to study in further and higher education.
