The HR function is a modern, streamlined department of multi-skilled professionals, ready to support Bournemouth Borough Council in meeting the demands of becoming an 'efficient council' and an employer of choice.

These are the key areas where we deliver our professional support:

  • To become trusted strategic partners in the management of the Council
  • To equip the organisation to manage and engage with staff
  • To ensure the organisation's policies, procedures and practices remain fit for purpose
  • To support the organisation's commitment to being an 'efficient council'
  • To play a leading role in the development of the Councils strategic agenda, encouraging organisational development, and enabling the Council to become more effective in the management of its most expensive resource - its people
  • To raise awareness of the importance of people skills throughout the organisation and to develop capability, capacity and succession planning

HR Mission Statement

To provide a pro-active HR and OD service that enables our customers to recruit, retain, manage and develop the right people to deliver excellent services for the people of Bournemouth.  

To work in partnership with other organisations to deliver an efficient and effective service.

To lead by example, and actively encourage the development of a work environment which fosters the core HR values that underpin our work ethic, promoting and inspiring managers to lead, motivate and value their people.

The Human Resources & Organisational Development Service Unit incorporates 4 teams.

  • HR Business Partner Team
  • Employee Relations & Engagement Team
  • HR Service Delivery Team
  • Workforce Planning & Organisational Development Team
