Holdenhurst Village - Community Governance Review

Community governance reviews

A community governance review is a legal process where a council can ask the public and other interested parties about the most suitable way of representing local communities.

What is a community governance review?

A community governance review enables us to review and put in place or make changes to community governance systems and structures – for example by creating, merging, abolishing or changing parish or town councils in the review area.

The government has stressed that the aim of a review should be to bring about improved community engagement, more cohesive communities, better local democracy and result in more effective and convenient delivery of local services.

Why are we doing them?

We have a legal duty to carry out a community governance review if we receive a valid petition. We have received a petition containing the required number of signatures of eligible electors for the Holdenhurst Village area.

The petition asks that Holdenhurst Village be given parish status.

The community governance review for Holdenhurst Village will look at the best ways of enabling you to influence decisions affecting you, and represent the interests of people living in the area which can be done through a variety of arrangements.

Who is carrying out the review?

We are responsible for undertaking any review within the boundaries of Bournemouth Borough Council. The Council is responsible for agreeing the terms of reference for the review and agreeing any draft or final recommendations.

Terms of Reference for the review

The Terms of reference set out how the review will be carried out. The Council’s Cabinet at its meeting held on 16 November 2011 agreed the Terms of Reference| for the Holdenhurst Village Review.

How you can have your say

The deadline for responses to the review is 31 January 2012. You can email us or write to us using the contact information on this page, or you can complete an online survey|.

What happens after the response deadline?

After 31 January 2012, we will look at all of the questionnaires and responses that have been sent back and produce draft recommendations. A draft recommendation is a suggestion of what should happen and it will be based on the information that has been provided during the consultation exercise.
