Equality & Diversity Policy

Policy Statement

Bournemouth Adult Learning is governed by the Bournemouth Borough Council equal opportunities policy, which is a full document that outlines the Borough's commitments to all members of the community.

In addition, Bournemouth Adult Learning has an Equality & Diversity Policy that is specific to the service that they offer.

Purpose of the Policy

To ensure that Bournemouth Adult Learning promotes a culture of equal opportunities that is embedded in all aspects of the work, supports and encourages all under-represented groups, promotes an inclusive culture, and values diversity.

We are fully committed that everyone, whatever their circumstances and/ or background will:

  • Be fully respected & valued
  • Have equality of opportunity
  • Have full access to all activities (wherever possible)
  • Be treated as an individual

Equality

We are committed to providing an environment where everyone will have an equal opportunity to participate and develop to their full potential.

We will not tolerate discrimination on the grounds of disability, ethnicity, age, ability, religion, gender, sexuality, social background or membership of a group or organisation. We expect everyone to avoid behaviour which could make another person or group of people feel vulnerable, uncomfortable or unaccepted.

Diversity

We are committed to embracing diversity by encouraging people to maximise their potential and be valued for the contribution that they will make to our community.

We will not tolerate any situation where a person is devalued, ridiculed or disrespected.

Equality & Diversity Objectives

Bournemouth Adult Learning will:

  • Treat everyone fairly and with respect, courtesy and integrity. Meet the learning needs of the diverse community within the Bournemouth area.
  • Challenge any discriminatory behaviour or attitudes.
  • Promote positive action for those who are from under-represented groups.
