Bournemouth Healthy Early Years (HEY)

Bournemouth Healthy Early Years is a scheme for childcare settings (including childminders) which introduces young children and their families to a healthy and ecologically friendly lifestyle.

The scheme was created, and is maintained and managed by the Early Years Service within Bournemouth Borough Council.

There are two components to the scheme, the silver and bronze.

Bournemouth Silver Healthy Early Years

Silver HEY is divided onto five sections, each one corresponding with one of the five Every Child Matters Outcomes for children. The five sections of the scheme are:

  • Be Healthy
  • Stay Safe
  • Enjoy and Achieve
  • Make a Positive Contribution
  • Achieve Economic Well-being

To complete the scheme, pre-schools, day nurseries and childminders must complete 41 seperate standards relating to the above headings. If successful, the childcare setting or childminder will be awarded with Silver Healthy Early Years status and will recieve a silver plaque to display.

The Silver HEY scheme complements the Early Stage Foundation Stage Framework for children from birth to five.

  • Healthy eating
  • Physical activity

This scheme has recenly been incorporated into Bournemouth Quality Standards for Early Education and Care for pre-schools, day nurseries and childminders.

However, Bournemouth's Children's Centres and Early Years Learning Centres are still eligible to achieve this award.

Once awarded with Bronze Healthy Early Years, settings are given a bronze plaque to display.
