Bournemouth Healthy Early Years

The Healthy Early Years (HEY) scheme was set up to introduce children under the age of five to a healthy lifestyle.

The scheme is run by the Bournemouth Early Years Service in partnership with the Pre-school Learning Alliance and the Bournemouth and Poole Primary Care Trust.

The scheme monitors how effectively pre-schools, day nurseries and registered childminders support children in their care in each of the following areas:

  • emotional health
  • healthy eating
  • physical activity

Childcarers who demonstrate that they meet the requirements of the Healthy Early Years scheme are awarded HEY accreditation and issued with a plaque to display in their setting.

We want every child in Bournemouth to have the best possible start towards a healthy lifestyle. By introducing children to a healthy lifestyle at their nursery, pre-school or through a registered childminder, it is hoped that they will continue this good practice throughout life.
