Schools’ Forums were set up to give schools greater involvement in the distribution of funding within their Local Authority. They became mandatory in January 2003 and the powers of the Forum have grown with changes to school funding regulations. The Schools’ Forum is now the formal decision making body on all matters relating to the funding of schools.
The Schools’ Forum makes decisions on three main areas:
- The Authority's proposed school funding formula;
- The extent to which resources are retained by the Authority for issues within the schools budget, such as arrangements for pupils with special educational needs or early years education;
- Service contracts.
