Recycling Collection - Big Bin Scheme

Its easy to recycle in Bournemouth

Bournemouth Borough Council introduced the Big Bin, Little Bin kerbside collection scheme to help residents recycle more of their rubbish. Each household should have a large bin for recycling which is collected fortnightly and a smaller bin for all waste that can't be recycled which is collected weekly.

What can I recycle?

In the Big Bin (recycling bin), you can recycle:

  • Paper (including newspaper, office paper, catalogues, phone directories, windowed envelopes)
  • Cans (including drinks cans and household aerosols)
  • Glass (including bottles of all colours)
  • Cardboard (including packaging, toilet roll tubes)
  • Plastic bottles and food containers (including milk containers, fizzy drinks bottles, shampoo, cleaning products, meat trays, yoghurt pots, fruit punnets, margarine tubs and also bottle tops)
  • Food and drink cartons (including fruit juice containers, fresh soup cartons, milk products etc)

Please DO NOT BAG your recycling, instead place it loose in your bin. Plastic bags may be reused or disposed of in the refuse bin.

Please WASH & SQUASH your recycling to remove food or drink remnants and to ensure that the maximum amount can fit in your bin.
