We value and celebrate the diversity or differences of everyone we work for and with: residents, Councillors, staff, partners and all others that share this view.
We want to challenge set ideas and negative attitudes towards people’s differences so that, no matter what your background, the chances that you have will be fair.
Our aim is to be excellent in our equality and diversity work
The following factors are monitored by us but we will also include any others as they arise:
tickbox Age |tickbox Disability (or impairments as our residents like to call it)| tickbox Gender reassignment |tickbox Race |tickbox Religion or Belief |tickbox Sex |tickbox Sexual Orientation| tickbox Marriage & Civil Partnership |tickbox Pregnancy and Maternity|
We have established an Equality & Diversity residents’ panel| which is made up from people who represent the above areas. The Panel has achieved many positive outcomes| since it was established in April 2007.
An annual Equality & Diversity report| is produced by us so that we can monitor the changes in our communities in terms of their make up. We also produce a yearly Equality & Diversity action plan| in response to challenges made by the Panel and our growing recognition of issues.
As our policies and practices change we carry out Equality Impact Needs Assessments| in consultation with our Panel so that people’s differences are included in these.
Over the last 5 years we have been involved with many other individuals and organisations| representing diverse communities. We are, of course, one large community and work to improve community cohesion and resident involvement|. This is to make sure that everyone can have a voice and we can shape our services in response to this.
The Bournemouth Healthcare Trust Diversity Directory| provides contact information on local organisations that provide help and support around people's differences.
Every edition of our residents’ newspaper Home News| features an article on Equality & Diversity which we believe demonstrates our commitment to this important area. Equality & Diversity is also respresented in our Senior Management Meetings so that we have ownership of the subject throughout our service.
