Rent & Payments

rentpaymentsThe Council is responsible for setting the amount of rent that you pay to us.  The amount that we charge you is set every April.  This is in accordance with the Government’s plans to ensure that Housing Associations and Councils will eventually charge the same rent for similar properties.  This is also to ensure that across the Country tenants living in similar properties are charged similar rents.  The Government tells us by how much we can increase rents every year.
We will provide you with 4 weeks' notice of your rent increase.

Your rent is paid into the “Housing Revenue Account”.  This, along with a small amount of money given to us by the Government (a subsidy), pays for the services that we provide to you including repairs and improvements to your home.  The rent that you pay does not contribute to any other services that the Council provides.  None of the money that the Council collects in Council Tax is used for council housing.

Each year the Council considers carefully how much money it will need to raise the following year from rents and Government subsidies in order to carry out our programme of repair and maintenance.

There are many different ways to pay your rent|.
