Your Repairs Responsibilities

 

As a tenant of Bournemouth Council you too have some repairs responsibilities. 

You are responsible for:

tickbox  The internal decoration of your home. If you are in one of our Independent

        Senior Living homes you may be able to get a room decorated under our

        subsidised redecoration service.  This service runs from Autumn to Spring.  If

        you are interested in accessing this service please contact us|.

 

tickbox  For the upkeep of your garden, unless it is a communal garden.  If everyone

        living in your home is over 75 and you are living in a one bedroom bungalow you

        may be able to apply for basic gardening assistance.

 

tickbox  For any damage caused by you, your family or any visitor to your home.

        If you have been the victim of a crime, make sure you report it to the police and

        make a note of your crime reference number.  We may carry out repairs free of

        charge. 

 

tickbox  Clearing blockages to drains, sinks and baths up to the main drain (as long

        as the drains are not defective).  For advice on how to clear drains see handy

        tips. 

 

tickbox  Replacement of additional door keys or fobs.

 

tickbox  Removal of goods or rubbish from your home.

 

tickbox  Broken (not defective) glazing.

 

tickbox  Changes to fuses, lightbulbs and fluorescent tubes.

 

tickbox  Connection of cookers and fires.  Only a Gas Safe registered engineer can

        connect a gas appliance.

 

tickbox  Plumbing in a washing machine.

 

tickbox  Replacement of plugs and chains.

 

tickbox  Window cleaning (except externally in our Independent Senior Living

        Accommodation).

 

Chargeable Repairs

We may still be able to carry out some repairs when they are your responsibility but we will charge you for them. 

If you have an existing debt with us we will not normally be able to do more chargeable repairs for you until you have cleared your balance.

When a contractor visits your home

tickbox  Make sure there is a person over 16 in your home when the operative attends.

tickbox  Treat our contractors courteously.  They are instructed to leave if faced with

        aggressive or violent behaviour.

tickbox  Clear the area where the operative will be working of clutter, pictures or

        ornaments to prevent damage.

tickbox  You should have household insurance to protect your furnishings from

        accidental damage.  For more information contact your Housing Officer|.

tickbox  If you can’t make an appointment or no longer need a repair please let us know

        as soon as possible. 

tickbox  Do not smoke whilst the contractor is at your property.
