Bournemouth currently has 7 allotment sites, including Longbarrow which was voted the best site in Britain in 2009. The Council is working to develop more allotments in the Borough as demand for them is so high.
There are two sites that have opened recently. Elizabeth Gardens boasts six full-sized plots, two community plots, one disabled plot and one accessible plot. Southill Gardens has ten mini plots, each of them around 21 metres square. The site is designed for those who don't feel that a full or half plot is for them.
The larger sites in Bournemouth have a shop, toilets and meeting areas and are managed by allotment associations on behalf of the Council.
You will need to be a resident of Bournemouth to be able to apply for and to continue to hold an allotment plot (except at Talbot Village).
A full plot is 250m2 (300sq yds), although it’s best to start with a smaller plot.
Please be advised that all sites are currently operating a waiting list.
Contact the sites directly for costs and further information.
