In January 2010 Bournemouth Borough Council purchased the Waterfront building – voted the most hated building in England – with the aim of transforming it into a facility that we can all finally be proud of.
In March 2010, we undertook public consultation, with 3,500 people giving us their thoughts on the building and what they wanted to see on the site. The Council used this feedback to draw up a brief for the development on the site.
In October 2010, the Council completed acquisition of all leases within the building, ahead of schedule and within budget, meaning that we can now formally begin our search for leisure operators and developers to meet our brief for the site.
On these pages you can find out more about the public consultation, what we expect from leisure developers and operators, and the construction work taking place on site now, plus answers to some frequently asked questions.
