Vision unveiled for Bournemouth Gardens

Vision unveiled for Bournemouth’s Gardens

A treetop platform with sea and garden views is among the ideas unveiled in Bournemouth’s Town Centre Master Vision.

This artist’s impression gives a flavour of how the platform could look – but Bournemouth Council is also considering the option of a treetop walkway. Either landmark would bring improved wheelchair and pushchair access from Westover Road into the gardens.

Other ideas unveiled within a consultation document about the Vision include thinning the tree cover to provide better garden views for the shopping and hotel district and an added feeling of safety at night in the gardens.

Cllr Bob Chapman, a Town Centre councillor, said: “We recognise that Bournemouth’s award-winning gardens are one of its best assets and the Vision is keen to protect and enhance them.

“We worked closely with children at St Michael’s Primary School in Bournemouth – they asked for a playground and we’re considering the option of providing a high-quality one within the gardens area.”

The Vision also advocates the creation of world-class events in Bournemouth; including concerts, festivals, exhibitions, theatre and outdoor cinema.

Cllr John Beesley, Deputy Leader of the Council, said: “Holding events such as this year’s Air Festival, as well as smaller events, will raise Bournemouth’s profile, acting as a magnet to the town and hopefully a boost to retailers.”

Bournemouth Council has been working closely with the public to collect ideas for the Vision. After months of consideration they have unveiled a Town Centre Master Vision and are carrying out widespread consultation.

A DVD explaining the vision is available to download from the Council’s website and, over the coming days, further information about the vision will be revealed.
