PRESS RELEASE - 3 July 2009
Children and young people from across Bournemouth will be spoilt for choice with the range of interactive and fun activities on offer throughout the summer holidays this year.
Working in partnership with private providers, Bournemouth Borough Council has created a schedule of ‘Summer Sizzler’ activities that are affordable and accessible across the borough. The activities available range from the popular council run playscheme Boredom Busters, AFC Bournemouth Soccer School for boys and girls, dance workshops including Bollywood, funk and hip hop, craft activities, street theatre and much more.
21 schools will be opening their doors this summer to children and young people including Glenmoor, Linwood, The Bishop of Winchester, Avonbourne, Kings Park, Oakmead and Portchester.
Gary Pulman, Extended Services Manager, said: “Last year’s Summer Sizzler was a resounding success, with over 15,500 opportunities available for children and young people in Bournemouth to take part in activities throughout the summer holidays. The Extended Services team has worked hard to provide some really exciting activities this summer and there really is something to suit everyone.”
A programme of events and activities happening this summer can be found at www.bournemouth.gov.uk/summersizzler/. Copies of the brochure are also distributed through every school and are available from the Childrens’ Information Service at Dorset House, libraries, children’s centres, community centres, job centres, doctor surgeries and clinics.
