Bournemouth residents are to be consulted on the potential site of a major ice rink facility in the borough.
The Council has identified a suitable site at Kings Park and has released £25k of feasibility funding to carry out public consultation and to carry out an analysis of the site.
Consultation is due to take place between July and September 2008 with a sample of local residents in the Kings Park area as well as residents from around the borough asked to give their views.
If the site is suitable and the public express a demand for the facility this will be reported to the Charity Commission who will be asked to give approval for the project to be progressed.
Councillor John Beesley, Deputy Leader of Bournemouth Council said: “We have looked carefully within the town centre to see if a suitable site could be identified for an ice rink but it’s unlikely one can be found. However, we know that this type of facility is a high priority for the public and our officers have already looked into the possibility of Kings Park.”
“I fully support this further work to explore the feasibility of an ice rink at this site and look to delivering a high quality, all-weather family attraction for Bournemouth – a clear priority for this Council.”
Notes:
The preferred site identified for the ice rink is Kings Park. The site is on Trust Land and therefore any facility proposed for this site can only be used for recreational use.
