 Night Glow Cycle

Bournemouth Night Sky Ride

Saturday 20 July 2013

Bournemouth town centre will be transformed into a ‘grand prix style’ race circuit as part of this year’s Night Sky Ride event on Saturday 20 July.

Westover Road, Gervis Place, Exeter Road, Bath Hill and other town centre locations will form part of an evening race circuit which will be open to pre-registered elite cyclists to compete at speeds of up to 50mph.

Sky Ride is a popular family bike ride event which sees thousands of people of all ages and abilities take part in an organised bike ride.  Unique to Bournemouth’s Saturday Night Sky Ride, will be the circuit racing open to pre-registered elite cyclists to compete, as well as a fun and interactive Nightglow experience for all the family.  Throughout the evening there will be all sorts of fun and interactive activities on offer for everyone to enjoy.

From 6:30pm to 10.30pm Bournemouth’s Saturday Night Sky Ride and circuit racing event will offer residents and visitors an experience Bournemouth has never offered before.

Car free roads will mean both children and adults on two wheels can leisurely enjoy a unique town centre experience.

The circuit racing will see cyclists go head-to-head at speeds of up to 30mph in a series of short intense races around the specially designed road circuit in the town centre.

Finishing off the evening will be a ‘Nightglow Procession’, the town’s first ever bike light spectacular, where participants of all ages will be able to take part.

The procession will take place on a town centre circuit through the Lower Gardens up onto the closed roads of Gervis Place, Exeter Road, Bath Hill and back onto Pier Approach via the Hot Rocks entrance, where everyone will be encouraged to light up their bikes and themselves.  Awards will be given on the night for participants on the most unique and interesting bikes, those bikes which are best lit, as well as those participants in the ‘best dressed category’.

Bournemouth’s Saturday Night Sky Ride and Circuit Racing is a free event organised as part of the Council’s Getting About initiative in partnership with British Cycling and Sky.

Sky Ride is a free event for everyone to attend.
