Citizenship Ceremonies

Under the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002 all applicants aged 18 years or over who have had their application for British citizenship granted must attend a citizenship ceremony.

Citizenship Ceremonies are held monthly in the Council Chamber at the Town Hall, Bournemouth. The ceremonies are to welcome new citizens and are attended by the Mayor of Bournemouth. The ceremony will include taking an oath or affirmation to the Queen and a pledge of loyalty to the United Kingdom.

Bournemouth Registration Services is responsible for making the arrangements for citizenship ceremonies of applicants who live within the Borough of Bournemouth.

When an applicant receives a letter of approval from the Home Office they should contact Bournemouth Registration Services to obtain details of which ceremony they may attend. Applicants are required to attend a ceremony within three months of the approval from the Home Office being given, otherwise they may have to make a new arrangement.

 

Please also note the following:

• Dress code: Smart/Casual – NO Jeans.
• Maximum of 2 guests allowed.
• Photographs can be purchased on the day (cost is £5.00 each) after signing the register and receiving the certificate.
• If you wish to video the ceremony, only a hand held, battery operated camera can be used.
