Arts Council England's work with Local Government
Alongside Arts Council England, Local Government is the most significant revenue investor in the arts in this country.  Local Authority support is crucial for the funding and, in many cases, delivery of arts provision.  The work of Local Authorities plays a crucial role in putting the arts at the heart of national life and in ensuring that arts fulfil their maximum value as an essential part of healthy sustainable communities.
Arts Council England works strategically with Local Government nationally, regionally, and locally.  Our work will focus in three areas:
  • Strategic engagement that support mutual aims with targeted resources in priority places.
  • Ongoing support for networking, guidance on funding, information provision etc for all authorities in the region.
  • Activity targeted at improvement in context of the Local Government performance management framework.

Public value and the arts in England - ACE Report

'Public value and the arts in England' is the name given to the report which details the findings of the arts debate, the Arts Council's first-ever public value inquiry.

Over the last year, hundreds of people from all over England have contributed to the debate in interviews, group discussions and events.  While some contributors were already active participants in the arts, many others rarely or never attended an arts event.
