Public Art Development Plan
Public Art in Bournemouth is developed in relation to the framework of the Public Art Development Plan (click to open as a PDF in a new window).
The aim of this Plan will be to:
  • incorporate public art initiatives into new and refurbished developments and environmental schemes.
  • propose new and appropriate practice in Bournemouth and draw on the best practice from elsewhere.
  • include de-commissioning, disposal issues and how public art can underpin and incorporate community safety aspirations.
Examples of Public Art

Public art commissions and projects in Bournemouth: (click links for more details)

  • Boscombe Library project   By day, stunning glass and etched steel panels welcome visitors to Boscombe Library. The panels contain drawings and text made by local people through a community-based public art project led by artist Peter Dunn. At night, backlighting creates a vibrant beacon of colour, welcoming residents of Chapter House and visitors to the new Boscombe Library.
  • Boscombe Spa Village Development project   A dynamic new sculpture by Simon Hitchins will be installed in the piazza area in front of Boscombe Pier as part of the Boscombe Spa Village project, later in 2008.
