2007 - ARTificial Parklife

This was held from May 11th to 20th 2007 in Bournemouth's Lower Gardens. Using this communal site as an organic gallery space, students from the Arts Institute at Bournemouth (AIB) created a collection of art work inspired by and in response to the synthetic, visual and historical qualities of the gardens. The 'ornamental public ground' was embellished with engaging sights, enlightening people's walk with a playful and imaginative assortment of work. 2006
Work by artist, Peter Lunn, who exhibited in the 2006 exhibition, has recently triggered debate about the arts – see Daily Echo article (will open as a PDF in a new window).

2004

In May 2004, Fine Art students from the AIB were commissioned by Arts Development to produce a series of installations within the Lower Gardens.  This project was planned and designed by students and staff working with Bournemouth Borough Council's Arts Development, Events and Parks officers.

Evaluation (undertaken with AIB students, staff and Bournemouth Borough Council officers) revealed that although many challenging issues had been raised, there were clear benefits for all partners from working in this way.

This resulted in commitment from Bournemouth Borough Council's Arts Development and
Parks teams to continue to support the project. The project is now included as part of the students' course syllabus. Funding is provided by Arts Development and the AIB.

This is an opportunity:
·for students to work collaboratively and in partnership with Bournemouth Borough Council Arts Development and Parks.
·to raise the profile of AIB students and the arts in public settings.
·for Bournemouth Borough Council's arts development programme to support the development of new/emerging artists within the framework of the Joint Arts Plan.

2003 - ArtVenture

In 2003 Bournemouth town centre provided the venue and stimulus for students from the AIB to develop a week of site-specific exhibitions.

Organised by students as part of their course syllabus, ArtVenture showcased "contemporary emerging talent, bringing innovative work to new audiences".
