Uncovered
Uncovered is a pilot two-year programme of visual arts exhibitions, and other events, commissioned by Bournemouth Borough Council Arts Development in partnership with independent artists.
Uncovered will offer opportunities for artists working, or living in, or with a connection to Bournemouth, to show work and to encourage public engagement in local arts practice. These projects will address the ambitions of artists and the local authority to reconsider the role of art in a public context and link to aims of the new Bournemouth’s public art strategy – to be launched in 2006.
Each event will explore distinctions between gallery/indoor venues and outside spaces and between the viewer as local resident, visitor and passerby. In response to rapid change in urban centres they also raise issues of local identity and ownership and of inclusion/exclusion.

Cover to Cover: October 26 – December 16 2006
Cover to Cover was the first event within this programme. It was an exhibiting opportunity for professional artists living or working in Bournemouth, or with a connection to the town.
Work by the following artists was shown:
Jane McInally – video (Glasgow)
Melanie Coughlan – sculpture (Wiltshire)
Shelley Heath – performance (Macclesfield)
Richard Jeffery – photography (Dorset)
Each of the artists exhibited work which related to the function of the library as a public building and as an architectural space and the work was shown within the context of the library rather than the context of a gallery.
