The scheme for 2008-2009 is looking to support projects that involve:
Community Action - making the most of people’s talents to improve our quality of life. Includes support for Community Centres and places to meet. e.g. a community project promoting participation and involvement for the benefit of the local area/residents.
Equal Opportunities and Valuing Diversity - celebrating the diversity of and promoting good community relations between all sections of the community. We would like to support projects that bring groups together and build relationships.

Safer & Stronger Communities Fund – Safer & Stronger Communities Programme
Funding will be available for projects that contribute to the reduction of crime, fear of crime, perceptions of anti- social behaviour and harm caused by illegal drugs. The priorities for 2008-2009 are:
• Alcohol fuelled violence
• Reducing harm from alcohol
• Domestic Abuse
• Organised violence amongst young people
• Prejudice and discrimination
• Prolific and priority offenders [Arson reduction initiatives are looked at separately]
There is no minimum/maximum, however, it should be noted that there is a maximum of £30,000 across the Borough for 2008/09. All funds need to be spent by February 28th 2009 The project needs to fit the following criteria:
1. The project must demonstrate that it meets the Local Area Agreement objectives and ideally more than one, as cross cutting initiatives are positively encouraged.
2. Projects with other funding sources will be more likely to be successful than those where there is no other source (unless this is for capacity building or similar).
3. Funding will only be allocated on a ‘one-off’ basis, for example it cannot be for issues that have an ongoing funding commitment, unless there is a clear business plan to
demonstrate income from other sources.
4. Safer & Stronger Communities will not pay for a salary or wages of a person or position, except in exceptional circumstances.
5. The proposed project must demonstrate community involvement.
6. Projects funded through the Safer & Stronger Communities Forum are subject to monitoring/evaluation and outcomes will be monitored. The provision of timely evaluation information is expected when requested. Failure to do so will have a detrimental effect on any future funding.
