NEIGHBOURHOOD WORKERS

Bournemouth has number of Neighbourhood Workers who work in different areas of Bournemouth to try and tackle issues that are of concern to local residents. Additionally the neighbourhood workers liaise with organisations who can make a difference to the area, for example, Housing Associations and Police.

The areas that currently have neighbourhood workers are:

  • Keeble, East Howe and Oakmead Gardens
  • Townsend and Luckham Road area
  • West Howe
  • West Southbourne
  • Winton and Moordown

 Keeble, East Howe and Oakmead Gardens

The Neighbourhood Worker for Keeble, East Howe and Oakmead Gardens is Sandi Stockdale. Sandi has recently started working in Oakmead Gardens and is trying to organise a residents group in the area. Townsend and Luckham

Caroline Abbis is the Assistant Community Liaison Officer for Townsend and the Luckham Area. For more information on projects that are happening in these areas, please email Caroline or call her on (01202) 466125. There is also a website dedicated to the area: Townsend news.

 

West Howe

Martha Blackburn is the Neighbourhood Worker for West Howe. Her post is funded by 'Fairshare' a lottery programme which exists to support underfunded areas allowing local residents and voluntary organisations to work with others to build on the skills and opportunities in the area. *       There is still some funding left in the West Howe Community Chest.  If you would like to find out more, please get in touch with Martha on the number above.

*       Half term is almost upon us, but don’t worry – there are lots of things to do, many of them for free.Turlin Moore Funday, Creekmore Funday, Sports Propvision for the Disabled, Halloween in Kinson, Poole Museum talks

*       East Borough Housing Association offers support to older people through a ‘handyman’ service

*       NHS Bournemouth and Poole has opened up a funding stream for innovative projects that improve health.  Please click here for more info

*       Keyring are looking for a live-in volunteer to help support their Winton network

*       Edward May Court are running craft sessions for older people.  Their current theme is making Christmas Cards – crafty and thrifty all in one!!

*       The Dorset Bengali Group invite us all to their Eid party

*       Women and Children only swimming starts up this Sunday

*       The Dorset Deaf Association is publicising the support they offer
