What is Anti-Social Behaviour?

Bournemouth Borough Council regards all complaints of anti-social behaviour seriously and has put in place procedures for dealing with complaints.

Anti-social behaviour is defined as “…acting in a manner that causes or is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to one or more people not of the same household” and “…behaviour that unreasonably interferes with other people’s rights to use their home and community”.

In addition to this, the behaviour must be persistent. Before complaining to the council ask yourself if your complaint meets this definition.

The types of anti-social behaviour commonly complained about are:

  • noise
  • vandalism
  • alcohol & drug misuse
  • graffiti
  • youth nuisance
  • neighbour disputes
  • intimidation & harassment
  • racial abuse
