conservation guidance

The conservation section has produced several guidance leaflets in order to raise the awareness of conservation issues and to encourage development which is sympathetic to the historic environment.

Shopfront Guidelines

The vitality and interest of town centres and other shopping areas relies to a great extent on the appearance of shop fronts.  Some of the commercial areas of Bournemouth are more sensitive than others as they contain listed buildings and/or lie within a conservation area.  The Shopfront Guidelines booklet is intended to offer guidance for new or replacement shop fronts throughout the Borough and can be obtained from planning reception or viewed by clicking here.

Best Practice in Conservation Areas

The Conservation section has produced a booklet which is aimed at providing some advice for dealing with initial enquiries and applications in conservation areas.  It covers issues such as windows, doors, garages, extensions, porches, conservatories, dormers, rooflights, roofs, fascias/ barge-boards/drainpipes and guttering, cladding, satellite dishes, shopfronts and signs, boundary walls and front gardens.  The booklet can be obtained from planning reception or viewed by clicking here.
