The management of the historic environment is important in order to ensure that the character and appearance of areas/buildings within the Borough are preserved/enhanced.
Historic environment management can take the form of undertaking improvement works throughout the Town and is subject to the availability of funds.
Previous schemes have included: the replacement of old walls and railings in the Town Centre with new balustrades; railings at Central Gardens; the repair and painting of the Old Christchurch Road Canopy to improve the appearance of a major shopping street; the provision of street furniture in the East Cliff conservation area; the landscaping of public places; railings at Churchill Gardens; signs at Littledown Lane, Sturt Lane, Church Lane and Butt’s Lane; and the planting of trees along main approach roads into the Town.
