Catalogue

You can access Bournemouth Libraries catalogue in libraries and on the internet. It is also referred to as Bournemouth Libraries OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue). Click the button on the right to open our online catalogue or click here to open it in a new window.

Why not bookmark it as a favourite internet site so that you can access it directly, not just via this website?

Help

Once you've opened the Catalogue click on the 'Help' button at the top-right for help. Different help topics are shown depending upon where you e.g. If you are looking at Search you will be shown help with searching, if you are viewing Search Results you will be able to see information on the results of your search.

Searching for books and other Library items (CDs, DVDs, Videos, Multimedia items, Sound Cassettes etc.)

In the Catalogue there are clickable buttons for both 'Search' and 'Advanced Search'.

Search for item(s) by title and/or author and/or keyword. If you want you can chose to search by year as well.

In the search results, the picture on the left of each item will indicate whether its a book, a CD, a video etc. Click on 'Show Copy/Copies' to see its Location(s), Shelf Mark, Availability (date due for return, if on loan), number of Copies we have and number of copies already on Loan. If the Loan Type is Reference the item is not available for loan or reservation.

The Advanced Search can be used to, for example, to search specifically by Format (CDs, DVDs, Videos, Multimedia items, Cassettes etc.) or to Browse items by Classification (shelf mark).

Your Borrower Information

You can access this through the Catalogue (see above). Click on the 'Borrower Information' button.

Before you can access your information you will need a library Personal Identification Number (PIN), which is available from library staff on presentation of your library card. You can change your PIN (see below).

Logging On

At 'Borrower number' enter your library card number (do NOT type in the letter which may be at the end of your number) and then your 'PIN' and click on the 'Logon' button.

If you see a message at the top left ‘Please note your ticket has expired – please see a member of staff’ you need to get your library card renewed at any library.

You may later be presented with the option to ‘Remember me’ which you should choose unless you want to log out.

Your Charges, Loans and Reservations

When you Log on you will see your Charges (if you have any outstanding), Loans (including the item’s Due Date and Potential Charge if overdue) and (current) Reservations.

The status of a current reservation will be either ‘Waiting Collection’ or 'Active' (when we are waiting for the item to be returned, or library staff are looking for the item).

You can click a button to see your Loan History or Reservation History (collected, uncollected or cancelled).

You can select and then click a button to 'Renew Loan'(s).

You can select and then click a button to 'Cancel Reservation'(s).

Changing your PIN or email address

You can 'Change PIN' or 'Change Address/Email Details' by clicking on either of the two links at the top right. Address changes won’t update online because you have to show proof of your new address at a library when staff will amend your account.

Emailing, Printing and Saving your information

You can select information to be either sent to an email address (which you type in), printed (in print-friendly format), or downloaded (saved) using the buttons at the bottom of the Catalogue.

Logging Out

You must click on the 'Log OUT' button when you have finished with your borrower information to prevent other people using it.

Also, when logged in to the Catalogue, you can:

Get email alerts

Check out Library Elf, a free email alert service on the internet (this site is not run by Bournemouth Libraries). It tells you when loans are due, overdue and when reservations are waiting. You can register several users on one account, so one email alert works for the whole family!

All you need to do to register is sign up with your email address, Bournemouth Libraries library card number(s) and PIN(s). Disclaimer
