New library members can borrow:
When you first join Bournemouth Libraries you will have a three-week provisional period when you can only borrow up to 7 items. For new members who are over 12 years old these 7 items can include up to 3 chargeable audiovisual items but only 1 of these can be a 'Top Title' DVD.
Full library members can borrow:
After the provisional period AND when you have returned all the items you first borrowed you will be given full borrower status so that you can borrow up to 12 books and up to 12 audiovisual items. Only library members over the age of 12 can borrow chargeable audiovisual items such as CDs and DVDs - see charges below. Children aged 12 and under can borrow non-chargeable audiovisual items such as story tapes.
Borrow from any of our twelve Bournemouth libraries. And return items to any of our libraries - you don't have to return items to the library you borrowed them from (except for 'Top Title' DVDs which you must return to the same library you borrowed them from). Libraries have different opening times - see Opening Hours and Contact Details

Overdue charges
Returning items to the library past their due date can incur overdue charges.
There is a daily overdue charge for adult books of 16p per book per day (from 1st April 2008).
Late returns of CDs, DVDs and videos will incur additional daily hire charges. Other audiovisual items, such as adult audio books and Playstation games will incur further weekly hire charges.
Children and teenagers (under 18) returning children's or teenager's books and story tapes will NOT incur overdue charges. However a charge of 47p (to cover costs) is made each time an overdue letter has to be posted to the child/teenager at their parent/carer's address. This first happens once items are two weeks beyond the date they were due to be returned. A second overdue letter is sent out two weeks later if the items have still not been returned.
