To do any of the following online you have to log on to your Borrower Information through the Catalogue. Before you can access your information you will need a library Personal Identification Number (PIN), which is available from library staff on presentation of your library card. Click here for more details of how to use Borrower Information and how to get help online.
You can renew loans by telephone, email, letter or by personal visit to any library (except during your probationary period) by quoting your Library card number.
TO RENEW LOANS ONLINE:
When you Log on to your Borrower Information through the Catalogue you will see your Loans listed. At the bottom of the list you can select and then click a button to 'Renew Loan'(s).
Some items are not renewable online:
- Hire charge items (CDs, DVDs, Videos etc) - just pay the extra hire charge on return
- Items which have been reserved by another user
- Items which you have renewed 'unseen' (online, by email, by phone or by letter) two times already. To get items renewed more than twice please take them to a library.
You will also not be able to renew online if:
- Your current Potential Charges for overdue loans or any Outstanding Charges are more than £10
- Your library card has expired
- You have only recently joined and are in your Probationary Period.
PROBLEMS WITH RENEWING YOUR LOANS ONLINE?
Contact library staff, by personal visit, email, letter or telephone, quoting your library card number, to ask for help or request that staff renew your loans for you.
RESERVATION CHARGES: For adults there is a small charge for reserving books, which is either paid when placing the reservation with library staff, or when collecting from the library if the request was made online. Children's reservations are free. Reservation Charges form 10th April 2007- opens as a PDF in a new window.
You can ask library staff to find items and place reservations for you.
TO RESERVE OR REQUEST ITEMS ONLINE:
Firstly search the Catalogue (click here for more information on Searching) for the item you want to reserve. Click on the blue ‘Request’ button at the right-hand side of the item.
If there is a problem at this stage you will see a message ‘There are no reservable copies for this title’. Items can be unreservable because they are:
If the item you want to reserve or request is none of these you will now have to logon to your Borrower Information through the Catalogue (unless you are already logged in). Click here for details of how to do this and how to get help online.
Click on the 'Place Request' button. Then:
Choose a site to collect the item from. You can request to collect your reservation from any library, for example, your local library.
You will also be told how many reservations have already been placed on this item and the total number of reservable copies we have.
The 'last useful date' specifies how long your reservation will be active for.
You will be told how much the charge for placing the reservation will be.
Click on the 'Confirm' button.
If successful, the next Reservations screen will say “Successfully placed reservation” at the top.
If your reservation was unsuccessful it could be for the following reasons:
- Your current Potential Charges for overdue loans or any Outstanding Charges are more than £10.
- Your library card has expired

If you choose to cancel a reservation or request you will still have to pay the reservation charge, which covers administration, and is non-refundable.
You can ask library staff to cancel reservations and requests for you.
TO CANCEL RESERVATIONS OR REQUESTS ONLINE:

If an item you want is not in our catalogue fill out a request form, available from staff at any library and we will do our best to obtain it for you. We can request adult, non-fiction items from other library services for you. There is a small charge for adults requesting items. Children's requests are free.
