SPECIFIC 

Ability Net

Provides advice and information on all aspects of making ICT accessible for people with a disability or limiting condition useful fact sheets and links to a range of organisations and suppliers.

British Dyslexia Association

Information for parents and dyslexic people including publications, helplines, local meetings and information on dyslexia education, computers, events and courses.

CHANGE People

CHANGE is a national organisation run by disabled people which campaigns for equal rights for all people with learning disabilities including people with learning disabilities who are deaf or blind.

Scope

Scope is the disability organisation in England and Wales whose focus is people with cerebral palsy. Information about cerebral palsy and disability issues, a helpline and other services.

Sign Community - British Deaf Association

Information on this website can be obtained in British Sign Language (BSL) [Flash required] or as text. UK Deaf organisation run by Deaf people representing the Sign Language community.

Skill - National Bureau for Students with Disabilities

Skill is a national charity promoting opportunities for young people and adults with any kind of disability in post-16 education, training and employment across the UK. Information and advice, events, publications and training. 

Talking Point

Information on children's communication development and disability for parents and professionals. Many resources and a database of local health and education services.

 

LIBRARY ORGANISATIONS FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

Gateway

Gateway works with library services to give visually impaired people better access to all library and information services whoever provides them. Lots of links to websites and information.

Listening Books

National, postal audio-book library service to people who cannot read in the usual way. Requires joining, normally with fee payable. Catalogues of titles. 

National Library for the Blind

The NLB has a large collection of Braille and Moon books and provides a free postal library service to blind and partially sighted people worldwide. Other services include a Giant Print Library for children and young people, and a large collection of Braille music scores. They also help individuals choose their reading and answer reference and other enquiries, directly or through their website. Click here to access their catalogue.
