For over 100 years, Bournemouth has operated a system of Building Control and has gathered extensive local records which include geological data, site usage, drainage and other vitally important information. This information which can save a great deal of time and money cannot be found easily elsewhere. Furthermore, records of approved buildings are put into archives so that the important construction details needed to plan alterations or extensions are often available for inspection. The Council's Building Control Officers are also available to advise on such matters as ground conditions, foundation design, drainage works, structural integrity, suitable materials and accepted building practice.
