How Do I Find Out If A Planning Application Affects Me?

In accordance with national legislation, it is the Council's practice to post a site notice in a prominent position outside the site of each planning application. At large sites, or on sites where local residents in more than one road may be affected, more than one notice will normally be posted. The notice will briefly describe the proposal, and will specify a date by which representations should be made (usually 21 days from the posting of the notice). Where the details of an application are amended, and it is felt that the changes are substantial in terms of their effect upon neighbours a new site notice will be posted pointing this out.  How do I comment?

In addition, the Council has a statutory duty to publicise in the local press certain major developments. These include proposals that are contrary to the Development Plan in a substantial way, large buildings in excess of 1,000 square metres, developments of 10 houses or more, or proposals which might affect nearby property by causing noise, smell or other nuisance, or by attracting crowds and traffic into a generally quiet area.

In addition to publicity carried out by the Council itself, newspapers circulating in the area may carry a list of recent applications, although the Council cannot guarantee that every application will be published in this way, nor can it guarantee the timing of the publication.

Applications for those signs and advertisements  which require consent are made under quite separate government Regulations which do not require publicity by way of a site or press notice.

For further information, please telephone Planning Administration (01202) 451325 or email planning@bournemouth.gov.uk

Please note: Representations received will be open to inspection by anyone requesting them and will not be acknowledged or a notification sent of the decision unless two stamped addressed envelopes are enclosed.
